I’m Mathan—a Sri Lankan-born, Germany-raised global citizen with over 25 years of experience in the language and tech industries. My story starts young: moving to Germany at five, picking up German alongside my native Tamil and English, and growing up in a world of words. Today, I’m married to an Italian, raising two kids in Bonn, and reflecting on a career that’s taken me across borders and boardrooms. This blog is my way of pouring out that journey—unfiltered and full-bodied.

I hold a master’s in linguistics, specializing in human-machine interaction, where my thesis on machine translation delivered a framework that spiked productivity by more than 40%—a result that turned heads at Volkswagen. From there, I’ve worn many hats: scaling a sales team from 8 to 45 as VP of Sales, steering strategic transformations at RWS post-SDL acquisition, and consulting for companies from the Bay Area to Berlin.
